Highlights after round 2

Here are some highlights of the Canadian team after 2 rounds:

• Boys U10: Yuanchen Zhang won 2 / 2.
• Boys U10: Joseph Bellissimo defeated the 2009 WYCC champion in round 2.
• Girls U12: Jackie Peng won 2 / 2, moved up to board 5 for round 3.
• Girls U12: Melissa Giblon drew a WFM (2124, #1 in the world, rated 800 points above her) in round 2.
• Boys U16: Jerry Xiong drew 2 FMs (2403 and 2307, rated 200-300 points above him) in rounds 1 and 2.

Team Meeting and Blog Chess Puzzle Winners

Daily Team Meetings are being held to make announcements and discuss any issues or concerns that arise.

The 4 Top Blog Chess Puzzle Solvers were Announced by Coach Vladimir Birarov at today's Team Meeting:


Joshua was the most persistent puzzle solver as he was the only one who attempted all the chess puzzles.



Melissa diligently solved the puzzles and won 3rd place.

2nd Place won by Minya

Top prize goes to John.

Team meetings provide opportunity for Team Members to share information, review issues and concerns; and to encourage one another.

I was able to get photos of most of our U12, U14, U16 and U18 players in the main playing hall. Alexandra Botez's opponent didn't show up, and I wasn't able to get to Roman Sapozhnikov before the round started. The U8 and U10 sections are played in 2 other rooms in a different building.

News from our team mates

Good morning Team,

    As we witnessed today, hundreds were checking in at the reception desk.....It takes over an hour or so to process and give everyone a key etc.  Please have a pen ready to fill in a guest card w/ your personal info(it expedites the process, so u don't wait as long if u have u're own pen).  PLEASE DO NOT forget to purchase an internet card which costs 10 EUROS for 6hrs of internet service(it really gives u 8hrs).  Breakfast is btwn 7:30 to 10:30 am, lunch 1-3pm and dinner 7:30-10pm. The cofee and beverages are free at breakfast but you would have to pay the drinks for other meals thru out the day.   The food is quite fresh, abundant and very tasty.......  The sea is very clean, towels are @reception and the chairs are free.  The several pools by the Meliton are sea water but quite cold.  The work out room costs 10Euros daily. 

    The people are very friendly and most the signs in Greek are translated in English.

    Presently the WYCC 2010 Organizers have allowed FREE internet in the Lobby only.  Thus if you want internet in you rm, it costs 10 Euros for a prepay card of 6hrs.
